St Agnes U9’s hosted Truro
By Pete Antunes
First competitive game of the season at Enys Parc on Sunday
The games played were the first chance to play the contact game after three years of Tag. The team consisting of Freddie, Nick, Sam, Stanley, Wilf and Tom were kindly boosted to the seven required by Ollie and Tom from Truro. The understanding of the game learned playing tag and the quality developed in the basics of rugby was clear to those watching on the sidelines. St Agnes impressed their supporters with the basic skills of team rugby enhanced with moments of individual skill from all the players. Playing three games against three different Truro teams St Agnes came out as clear victors with all St Agnes players crossing the try line at least once. Defensively the technique of tackling practiced pre season showed on the pitch with the team proving hard to break through and Truro often being driven back. A special mention should go to Freddie who was finally given the freedom to demonstrate his tackling ability in a competitive game. That and his trys were part of a standout performance amongst a team of great players.
